The City of Fountains...Kansas City has developed into an acknowledged cultural center of exceptional beauty and grace. With more fountains than Rome, and more parkways than Paris, K.C. is a beautiful place to live, work and play.
What? You thought Kansas City was "just a cowtown" in the Midwest? Well, yes, we are quite proud that the famous K.C. Stockyard continues to produce some of the best blue-ribbon beef in the world...and that our "cowtown" history produces succulent steaks and spicy barbeque traditions that attract thousands of visitors each year. But Kansas City is so much more!
The Kansas City metro area encompasses seven counties in two states on both sides of the Missouri River. The Missouri side boasts the highest populace of the two cities, (K.C., MO and K.C., KS), and is home to Downtown Kansas City, Crown Center, Arrowhead Stadium (Home of the Kansas City Chiefs) and Kauffman Stadium (Home of the Kansas City Royals).
Swope Parkway is the address for The Kansas City Zoo, which has just recently been renovated and updated with additional exhibits, and across the way, The Starlight Theatre, our open-air theater, performing summer music shows featuring prominent performers. Additional entertainment and cultural activities range from the serenity of absorbing the superb collections of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to the splashing of the waves at Oceans of Fun and the beat of the country's best jazz musicians, the heartland of the country has something for everyone -- down-home cowtown or the sophistication of Crown Center or the world-famous County Club Plaza.
The first totally planned suburban shopping center in America, the Country Club Plaza, developed in 1922, is also on the Missouri side. It has gained national attention for the "Plaza Lights", which outline the buildings, streets and trees on the Plaza with 47 miles of colored lights at Christmas-time.
Situated in rolling, mostly wooded hills, Kansas City is surrounded by the sparkling waters of many recreational lakes, offering boating, fishing and swimming. Our heartland proximity allows us to enjoy all 4 seasons of weather, making the phrase, 'If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute." quite appropriate at times. Riverboat gambling abound as Argosy, Harrah's and Sam's Town casinos anchor on the Missouri side of the river, offering additional forms of recreational entertainment.
It's no wonder that Kansas City attracts so many businesses to the area. Centrally located with friendly people, great food, cultural and recreational activities within minutes anywhere in the city, and a highway system second to none. In December, 1995, the National Association of Homebuilders voted Kansas City as the city which has the most affordable housing in the nation, with a median home price range right around $84,000. Quite a distinction considering how many cities there are in the United States! There are scads of links to Kansas City sites on the Web! Be sure to visit the Salute to Kansas City and K.C. Wait a minute! A visit to Missouri is not complete without checking out our Eastern Star, St. Louis. Thanks for visiting Kansas City, MO. Y'all come back now...y'hear?
